BWE, VI

Man, I feel like I've been doing nothing but working. Finding a nine-five job is really very tempting at this point. Working from 5pm-11pm a lot of days in a row (when your sig. other works from 8am-5pm, especially) is exhausting. I don't usually get a lot done during the days aside from cleaning or watching TV, and I have to keep doing it because I have weekend plans of weddings or family events.

This week I worked 4 days in a row because I was going on a writer's retreat with SAFTA over the weekend. I am pretty jaded by closing up the café at this point, but I'm doing 4 nights next week, too.

On the bright side, the retreat was totally worth it. I had a really great time becoming closer with some of the people I've been working with, and I can't stress enough how amazing and important it is to surround yourself with people who love what you love. It is completing fulfilling and encouraging, especially when the people have accomplished the same things you're dreaming of doing.

Also, I learned to drive an ATV, so I'm awesome.

I am usually not really one for camping. I'm a scaredy cat with a vivid imagination, and I always think I'm going to get murdered or something. Dramatic, I know, but there is something about sleeping in a tent that is so vulnerable. The morning are quite nice, though.

While on the retreat I was able to start writing a new story and trying to figure out the bare bones of it. I haven't completed a short story in well over a year, so that was definitely something I'm way proud to say.

Here are some haikus I wrote for fun while I was sitting around the campfire.

Like a cowboy, I
blur the horizon by day.
I have more horses.

Beauty is not lost.
The sun still engulfs the leaves.
Befriend more poets.

Coffee tastes better
when I did not have a hand
in its creation.
Dinosaur fish, cotton clouds
floating: none were my design

(Haikus are 5-7-5. The last one is a Tanka and it is 5-7-5-7-7.)

Bye Babes,
Stephanie
